Social Media Internship

Home of the Sparrow is a nonprofit organization in Exton, PA whose mission is to partner with women facing homelessness to secure housing, achieve long-term stability, and chart new paths for their futures.

This internship provides a great learning experience for college students or graduates and the unique opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with passionate co-workers. Reporting to the Development and Communications Associate, your main responsibility is to help with the creation of content for and management of Home of the Sparrow’s online media channels. To excel in this position, you must be tech-savvy with an in-depth understanding of social media.

Length of the internship: 6 months+, 8-15 hours per week (negotiable)

The internship is not a paid position nor does it qualify as employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Help manage and create content for Home of the Sparrow’s online media channels
  • Write effective copy, excelling in correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar
  • Research and write content to share on social media channels
  • Assist in community management on Facebook
  • Build event specific content to be shared on social channels
  • Support fundraising campaigns
  • Provide video and photo support for outreach and fundraising events
  • Develop short video material for online media

 

What you need for this internship:

  • Commitment to the mission/goals of Home of the Sparrow
  • Passion for social and online media
  • An eye for compelling imagery and an interest in content/social media creation and marketing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with WordPress or strong willingness to learn
  • An understanding of how to use Facebook and Google analytics tools (or the willingness to learn)
  • You’re self-motivated, well-organized, creative, hard-working, and a fast learner
  • Experience (or interest) with Hootsuite, Canva, Photoshop and imovie

Program Coordinator Position

Home of the Sparrow is a non-profit whose mission is to partner with women facing homelessness to secure housing, achieve long-term stability, and chart new paths for their futures. The organization coordinates five programs to provide housing and supportive services so that women and children in the community have the resources they need to live independently. Housing is only the first step in the path to stability. In order to create a long-term impact in the lives of vulnerable women and children in our community we strive to provide a holistic solution to economic instability.

 

Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Program Coordinator will work directly with participants to support them in achieving independence and self-sufficiency. The ideal candidate will work with program participants on supportive services that include budgeting, housing, employment and education.

 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Able to work in a small team setting with a desire to learn from colleagues, supporting and encouraging each other and program participants.
  • Must be flexible, organized and self- starter.
  • Strong knowledge of creating and adhering to a household budget.
  • Ability to build relationships with program participants, landlords and other social service organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of housing and homelessness preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds in non-judgmental manner.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service of others is required.
  • Knowledge of Chester County, community resources, agencies and organizations helpful.

 

Experience and education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or similar field
  • Must be Bi-Lingual (Spanish)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience specific to housing and homelessness preferred.
  • Employment Category: Full-Time
